Course Overview

We are currently going through the information era and there is a wide scope for development in the field of information technology. The IT revolution has come in a big way, where majority of the students wish to build their career in these areas and want to join the band wagon. The Masters Degree course in Computer Applications (MCA) is one such course which incorporates the latest technology for meeting the industrial requirement with an underlying focus of Mathematics, Statistics and Human Resource Management specially designed to cater to the ever changing needs of the market with international acceptance.

The MCA course approved by AICTE, Government of India is run under the curriculum of Bangalore University. The course is carefully redesigned and updated by the University as and when needed. Upon successful completion of the course, the degree is awarded by the University.

In order to fulfill the course requirements, the college has built a hi-tech infrastructure with the state- of – the – art laboratories having the latest systems, full – fledged library with journals of national and international repute and a highly motivated, qualified and experienced faculty.

Outline of the Course

The MCA course is of three years duration divided into six semesters. During the three years, the students will learn the fundamentals of the most advanced subjects in the field of computer applications as they proceed to the higher classes. Students gain knowledge with respect to hardware and software. The Students will develop industrially oriented projects in each of the semesters from third semester onwards. The students as per the University curriculum have to carry out a full- fledged live project individually in a specialized stream in the industry.

A pass in 3 year degree (10+2+3) with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate with Mathematics/ Statistics at (10+2+3)/(10+2) level (45% in the case of SC/ST Students).

A minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory to appear for the Bangalore University Examination.

Academic Activities

Seminars, Guest Lectures, Projects, Industry visits, Internal tests and Mid-term Preparatory Exams.

Promotion to next Semester

Full carry over from odd semester to even semester and a maximum of four subjects may be carried over from even to odd semester.


21 days at the end of I, III & V semesters.
30 days at the end of II & IV semesters.

Project Report

Each student is required to undertake a Project in the final Semester and submit a report. The project carries 150 internal assessment marks and 350 marks for project evaluation, project demonstration and the viva voce examination conducted by Bangalore University.

Outcome of the Program

After completion of the MCA course the student will be able to:

  • Develop software projects using RDBMA methodologies.
  • Develop software for simulation of complex economical & biological systems.
  • Handle different operating system environments like UNIX, Solaris, Windows, Client technologies, etc.
  • Work in e-Business environment.
  • Pursue higher studies such as M. Phil, Ph.D. etc.

Employment Opportunities

After completing the course, the students have ample job opportunities in the field of information technology Biotechnology, Arts, Human Resources or Business management to name a few. Besides this the aspirants can:

  • Work in government or private sector jobs in different capacities as project leaders or programmers etc.
  • Work in software companies like Infosys, Wipro, HCl, BFL, TCS and so on.
  • Work as a network administrator in the client server environment.
  • Work in research and development institutions/ organizations.
  • Work in space engineering, defense and Govt. agencies.
  • Set up independent business for multimedia and other graphics applications.
